On Friday 6th December, Reception and Key Stage 1 had an assembly to learn about St Nicholas. He was a very important man who spent his life caring for others and helping those in need. He used to put coins in the shoes of those who needed it as well as gift small presents to children.
To remember him, children across Europe celebrate his feast day on December 6th. They lay shoes by fire places or by their doors in the hope that when they wake up, St Nicholas will have left them sweets, chocolate and fruit.
We celebrated the day by sharing a Yule Log with our classmates as this is a French tradition during Christmas. It was delicious!
