Hello Marmalade Minions!
I hope we all enjoyed out last topic on multiplication and division. Although we have come to the end of that topic, the learning does not end there; keep practising your 2, 5 and 10 times tables until you know it by heart!
Well, this week, we are moving on to ‘Fractions’. What does this mean? It basically is sharing an object or numbers into equal parts! Some of the key words you would encounter in this topic are familiar such as part, whole, half and quarters. Can you tell your adult what these words mean?
Let’s start with this video from BBC Bitesize – Fractions
What did you learn from the video. Can you share this with your adult?
I would like us to be very practical as we tackle this topic. Have loads of discussions about fractions as you share pizza, cakes, fruits, chocolate buttons, raisins and a variety of other objects at home.
Your PowerPoint for this week is: Year 1 PowerPoint Week 4 Fractions
Activity 1: Recognising halves
Activity 3 (Colour Half) : Page 1 is mild and Page 2 is the challenge. Choose!
Here are some games for you to play- GAME 1- Is it half? GAME 2- Equal Parts
Remember that for worksheets, children do not need to attempt all three levels- 1, 2 or 3 stars. Choose the level suitable for your child or the level above if they are up for a challenge. Otherwise, make it a ‘Chilli Challenge‘ where children choose their own task from mild (1 star), hot (2 stars) or fiery (3 stars).
Also remember that you can now share your work in the comment section below rather than the home learning email.
Enjoy!

Hi Mrs O, I’m having problems loading activities 1 and 2 this week. Activity 1 comes up blank (issue with url?) and activity 2 is displaying as distorted screen grabs rather than the worksheets themselves. Anyone else having problems?
Hello, I have reloaded the activities and it should work now. Activity 2 is a word document while Activity on the other hand, is a PDF. Kindly try again.
