Hello Magnificent Marmalade Minions!
It Maths time!
This week, we would be learning about position and direction!
We touched on this in Geography and Computing, when we looked at compass directions and Coordinates. Do you remember when we learnt about the cardinal points – North, East, West and South?
Discuss with your adult and tell then what you remember.
Some of the ‘Key Words‘ we would be using this week include: direction, position, turns, full turn, half turn, quarter turn, three-quarter turn, up, down, left, right, forwards, backwards, under, underneath, above, below, top, middle, bottom, side, around, in front, behind, front, back, beside, next to, opposite, apart, between and across.

Here are some clips to help you understand position and direction.
– Describing and giving directions- Cat and mouse song
Are you ready for a wake up, shake up with Groovy Nanny?!
Your PowerPoint for this week: Year 1 Week 7- Position and direction
Remember to choose worksheets based on our Minion’s understanding of the concept. Children may complete only one page of each activity.
I have also assigned some games on Purple Mash.
Remember that for worksheets, children do not need to attempt all three levels- 1, 2 or 3 stars. Choose the level suitable for your child or the level above if they are up for a challenge. Otherwise, make it a ‘Chilli Challenge‘ where children choose their own task from mild (1 star), hot (2 stars) or fiery (3 stars).
Also remember that you can now share your work in the comment section below rather than the home learning email.
Remember, the worksheets are just an added resource. You can make this lesson as practical as possible. As a family, you can play games (Family Game get-up-and-move-position-and-movement) and take turns to give and follow directions!
