Hello Magnificent Marmalade Minions!
Welcome back to another exciting week! First, I would like to say well done to everyone- we smashed position and direction last week. Way to go Minions!
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be looking at place value. We’ll be partitioning numbers into tens and ones using different methods such as ten frames, tables, part and whole models, dienes (base 10), numicon and lots more!
The key learning objective is to understand the value of numbers. For example, 47 has 4 tens and 7 ones ( 40+7= 47). We would also be learning to count, read and write numbers in numerals (to at least 100).
Some of the key vocabulary we would be using this week include: numbers 0-100, partition, forwards, backwards, ones, tens, hundreds, digit, the same number as, as many as, more, larger, bigger, greater, fewer, smaller, less fewest, smallest, least most, biggest, largest, greatest, one more, ten more, groups, one less, compare.

Your PowerPoint for this week: Year 1 Week 7 – Place Value (within 100)
Remember to choose worksheets based on our Minion’s understanding of the concept. Children may complete only one page of each activity.
E- Games on Topmarks- Place Value Charts
Challenge – Compare amounts! Let’s see how well you know your >,< and = symbols in this ‘Fruit Splat’ game.
I have also assigned some Place value games (Add 10s and 1s) on Active Learn– You’ll need to play these games with a partner. Why not ask someone in your family to join you!
Please remember that children do not need to attempt all three levels of the worksheets- 1, 2 or 3 stars. Choose the level suitable for your child or the level above if they are up for a challenge or make it a ‘Chilli Challenge‘ where children choose their own task from mild (1 star), hot (2 stars) or fiery (3 stars).
I cannot wait to see your fantastic work in the comment section below.
The worksheets are an added resource. You can make this lesson as practical as possible using coins, cubes, etc.
