Hello to all our Brilliant Buttercups and Super Sunflowers!
You have been working incredibly hard with your phonics lessons with either Mrs Zaib, Miss Wootton, Mrs Taylor or Mrs Houghton and we know you would like to continue that learning whilst you are at home.
We have attached sound mats which have the digraphs, trigraphs or blends you have been learning about. Please click on the link for your group.
Here are some activities you could try:
- Can you think of 3 words for the digraphs/trigraphs/blends and then use them in sentences? Don’t forget finger spaces, correctly formed letters and accurate punctuation- you could even try and use a question mark or an exclamation mark.
- Look in your home reading book and make a list of words that use one certain digraph/trigraph/blend. Now look for a different sound. How many words can you find?
- Make lists of words that contain the same sound, but use different digraphs, for example ‘see’ and ‘sea’ or ‘coin’ and ‘toy’.
- https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/5-7-years/words-and-spelling have a look at some games here, we will have played some in school so some should be familiar.
Don’t forget, the best way to develop your phonics knowledge is to READ, READ, READ!!
Enjoy these learning challenges, remember to send your learning to us at your class email address:
Love from Mrs Taylor and Mrs Houghton
