Year 2 have been learning about the Windrush Generation who came to Britain from the Caribbean aboard an enormous boat in 1948. We have been looking at the wonderful culture that people brought with them such as the music and food of the Caribbean.
Our classes read ‘Coming to England’ by Floella Benjamin as she was a child when she made the voyage. We picked a chilli challenge and either wrote a letter to Floella asking questions about her journey, or wrote a letter imagining we were Floella writing to her friends in Trinidad.
Black History Month is important because it allows us to celebrate the contribution black people have made to our history and shows us that, no matter what colour our skin or where our family are from, we can do great things!
