Dear Parents and Carers,
This afternoon I had arranged a TEAMs meeting to offer ideas of how to support your child at home with reading. With the return of pupils to school on Monday, details are coming through that there will be a need for a reading focus for Reception and Year 1 children. We are currently discussing in Year 1 how we can support and enhance our reading opportunities within school and with support from home the impact we can make.
We would dearly love for you to share a book with your child each evening so that they are able to understand the fluency of reading, the engagement of reading and just what a pleasure reading is. We would also encourage you to read your childs school book 3 times each week. It should only be a 10-15 minute activity.
Let your child see you reading and the enjoyment you get from it, whether it be a novel, a non-fiction text, magazine or newspaper. Play I-Spy and can they find the word beginning with the specific letter.
I have attached the presentation I was using for you all to take a look at and to gain ideas.
Enjoy reading, make it fun and see your child blossom.
Thank you for your continued support.
Mrs Millward
