Due to the Commonwealth games coming soon in Birmingham, as a school we decided to tie in our sports day with a Commonwealth theme. In year 1 we chose our Commonwealth country as Nigeria. We have linked virtually with a primary school in Lagos and spoke to Reception children there, we have recreated the Nigerian flag and learnt about the cultures and looked at Nigeria on Google Earth. Alongside that we have competed all week in a range of sports, discus, javelin, hurdles, long jump – to name a few. On Friday we had a VIP visitor – Matthew Lee the Decathlete came to school and helped us complete some circuit training. It has been an amazing week and Year 1 give Mr Harris a big shout out for organising all the sport events.
