Over the past few weeks we have been studying the architectural features of the Birmingham library. We have explored shading and printing and this week we have combined all our skills to produce our own artwork of Birmingham Library. We are all very impressed and proud of our new skills, and the final outcomes are…
This week we have begun our new Maths unit which is length. We had great fun familiarising ourselves with a variety of measuring tools including, tape measures, metre rules, and trundle wheels. Our week began outdoors and has ended measuring millimetres in the classroom. Such fun in Year 3. 🙂
In Science we have been learning about forces and today we have learnt about the impact of friction on that force. We enjoyed exploring friction through using ramps, cars and different materials.
Today we have learnt to divide with remainders. Initially we said that you couldn’t divide because the numbers weren’t equal! We soon understood about remainders. We learnt some new Mathematical vocabulary too, Dividend, Quotient, Divisor. We used a variety of resources to support our leaning.

This week in Art, we developed our shading technique to add highlight and impact on the Birmingham Bull. Some of us found drawing the bull tricky so we traced him from a picture. We think they are very impressive – hope you agree too.
Today in Year 3 we have had an amazing start to our new Theme, we had a selection of items and we had to become investigators to make links between them all to identify the new Theme. We then looked at famous people from our area, and looked at maps to identify key important locations.
To complete our Stone Age topic we learnt about the prehistoric village of Skara Brae. We looked at images of the remains of the houses and discussed why they have no roofs. We were fascinated by house seven, only having one corridor and locked from outside. We applied all our learning to create a diorama…
This week we have progressed our shading into our sunset/sun rise Stonehenge silhouette. We are that impressed we wanted to share with you. They will be our calendars for 12 months 🙂
