Art & Design

Purpose of study

Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Our School Vision for Art

At Perryfields, we offer a dynamic and progressive art curriculum that builds on prior learning and benefits from the expertise of high-quality specialist teachers and resources. Our aim is to foster a love of art through a broad and engaging curriculum. Pupils explore and appreciate the works of great artists, while developing critical thinking skills through thoughtful discussions. We provide opportunities to experience art in all its forms, while deepening their understanding of its unique elements, including patterns and different media. It is our belief that all children have the ability to thrive and express themselves through art and grow in confidence as a result of unleashing their imagination.
