As we started a new term, and a new year, Year One have been busy developing our mathematical thinking and revising some essential maths skills.
Today we were thinking about different ways to make the number 10. We revised our number bonds, but then we used our BLP muscles of resilience and collaboration to explore whether using 3 numbers made it easier or trickier to fill our ten frame. Using different coloured cubes, we worked with a buddy to talk about our ideas before we presented our ideas to the rest of the class.
This lesson enabled us to explore adding 3 small numbers as well as understanding that there is more than one way to answer some maths questions. We were able to use our oracy skills to discuss our thinking and then show that we know how to be an effective listener too.
It was a great way to get our maths brains back into action and we look forward to sharing more of our maths journey with you all!
