In celebration of World Tolerance Day today (Wednesday 16th November 2022), Reception shared the story ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’, to begin to understand the meaning of tolerance and acceptance.
We began by reading through the story and talking about how Gerald the Giraffe might have been feeling at different points in the story and how we might have felt if we were experiencing the same thing.
After this, we related the discussion to ourselves and our friends in our class. We talked about all the things that we like and what we are like as people and realised that even though we are different to our friends, that is okay! Some children in Reception like football and their friends do not, but we talked about how we can still be friends as it is okay to like different things.
We completed our session by looking at some different pictures from ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ and Miss Wootton wrote down our thoughts and feelings in some speech bubbles.
