This week, we have been using Numicon to explore fractions and understand how to convert between mixed number and improper fractions.
We needed to look closely at the denominator to know which Numicon base to use and then the numerator told us how many parts we had of that amount. Our numerator was larger than the denominator to enable us to calculate fractions that totalled more than one. Luckily, we could use our times tables knowledge and Numicon hand-in-hand to check our answers were correct.
This will help us move onto trickier aspects of our Year 5 Fractions learning, but we are now armed and ready to go having developed a good grasp of our concepts this week!
