Year One have been looking at numbers to 10 as the first stage in our learning now we are in Key Stage 1. We have been thinking about different ways to represent numbers such as using cubes, Numicon or number cards. This has helped us to strengthen our understanding of how we can combine different numbers to make a given total as part of our Mastery Number sessions.

One of our challenges this week was to use Numicon to begin to think about number bonds to 10. With a buddy, we had to make 10 using combinations of Numicon pieces. As you can see, there are lots of ways we can do this and it was interesting to see how lots of us used a different idea to the pair working with us.

It is important that we build these number skills as we start our Year One Maths journey because it will enable us to move our learning forward with a deeper understanding and will help us shine like the stars that we are!
