Year One have been continuing to develop their Maths skills by comparing numbers using mathematical symbols to show more than and less than. To help us consolidate and make sure we fully grasp the concept, we built cube towers of differing amounts and then used the correct mathematical symbol to complete our number sentence. When we were confident with this, our teachers used sentence stems to help us develop our use of vocabulary such as ‘7 is more than 6’. We also explored what to do when the two amounts are the same and looked at how the equals sign enables us to complete our number sentences when that is the case.
It was a fun way to learn and reinforced our counting skills as well as strengthening our listening skills. We enjoyed our learning today and we are ready to use even bigger amounts next time we visit this topic on our learning journey.
