Our dear Poppies and Rubies, welcome back to another exciting week as we continue to explore our theme- Out of the Egg- Dragons and Dinosaurs. We hope you have enjoyed playing in the snow this weekend. Did anyone go sledging or did you make a snowman? Alternatively, did you have a snowball fight? We will love to know how you spent your weekend. Find below, a detailed breakdown for each area of learning this week. I hope are looking forward to our social meeting on Wednesday afternoon!
On Wednesday the 27th of January at 2:15pm, we will be holding a Teams Session where our School Learners and Home Learners can get together for a story and ‘Show and Tell’.
I am sorry to inform you that our story time with Mrs Reader cannot hold this afternoon, Wednesday 27th January, as planned. It will now take place next week on Tuesday, the 2nd of February at 2.15pm. We will send Team invites nearer the time. We are all looking forward to seeing you then.
This week in Maths we are learning about 3D shape and time. We hope you will be able to join our daily live Maths lessons at 11.15 am but do not worry if you cannot, as we will record them; allowing you to watch them at a more convenient time.
Monday
We will be practising saying the days of week in order, learning the months of the year in order and remembering the order of the 4 seasons. We will try to say when our birthday is and in which season it falls.
Tuesday
We will begin to learn about time. We will look at an analogue clock introducing the second hand and explain that it takes 60 seconds to travel around the clock- that is one minute. Demonstrate saying “One elephant, two elephants etc.” Explain that one hour is 60 minutes. The hour hand travels so slowly we can’t see it move. It is much longer than one minute. Explain that there are 24 hours in the day. Compare what we could do in one minute, one hour and one day. Introduce o’clock time on an analogue clock.

Thursday
We will practise reciting numbers up to 100. We will then look at all 3D shapes, naming and describing them, using the terms faces, edges, curved, flat faces, corners. When we are confident with these shapes we will predict which shapes will roll and which will slide down a slope.

Friday
Practising doubles to 5. After looking at 3D shapes we will sort them into 2 groups.
One group for shapes with a flat face, the other for shapes with a curved face. Can they name any other 3d shapes?
Go on a hunt around the house looking for 3D shapes. In your Red Book draw and name any 3D shapes you can find.
Our Live Literacy lessons will hold at 9.25am. This week we are continuing our theme ‘The Egg.’ All of our live literacy lessons will be about this week’s book, which is titled Dinosaur Sleepover by Pamela Duncan Edwards.
Please note you do not have to print all the worksheets you can always work straight into your Red book.

Today we are going to help dinosaur to pack an overnight bag for a sleepover.
Activity: Write a list of the things dinosaur would need. You might even want to pack a bag at home and send us a photograph over tapestry.

This week’s letters are r h and b. Don’t forget to keep practising writing your first name. You could even learn to write your surname.

Thursday
Today we are going to learn about the sorts of information we need to include in a party invitation.
Activity: Design your own party invitation or complete the invitation worksheet.

Friday
Listen to the story again, pause at the part where the dinosaur talks about party games. What is happening in the picture?
Activity : Write a caption about each picture or think of some party games you have played and write a caption.

Encourage your child to practise blending (saying the sounds and reading the words) using these sounds. Then we will move onto segmenting the sounds (saying the word and then saying or writing the sounds to spell the word. E.g., mop segmented into m-o-p.

Physical Development and Independent Activities

Dinosaur Cutting Activity
Communication Language and Literacy (Listening and Attention, Understanding Speaking) and Understanding of the World. (History focus)
The objective of this session is: to discuss and identify some of the ways we have changed since we were babies.
To start this session with your child, watch “A Chair for Baby Bear” by Kaye Umansky & Chris Fisher here. You may want to watch it a few times so children can become familiar with the sequence of events and the different types of chairs Baby Bear encounters. Show your child this image of different chairs to allow them discuss or explore: different sizes, shapes, types and materials used to make the chairs:
Draw your child’s attention to the “baby chair.” Is it something the children would use now? Why not? Get your child to think/talk about how they have grown and can’t use the chair anymore. Use this as a starting point to explore other ways they have changed since they were babies.
Understanding of the World (Science)
In science this week, we would be little palaeontologist as we explore non-fiction texts about dinosaurs. Who is a palaeontologist?
We would gather different facts about these ancient creatures from videos and books in our library. You can watch some of our videos here on CBBC: Facts about dinosaurs
These videos will tell you about dinosaurs such as the Tyrannosaurus- Rex (T-Rex), Stegosaurus, Triceratops and the Ornithocheirus. We hope you enjoy learning about dinosaurs!
JIGSAW / PSHE:
Our topic for PSHE this term is Dreams and Goals. This week, we would be discussing all the different things we are good at. Get your child to share their strengths. They can also say something good about each family member and vice versa.
Questions:
How do you feel when people say kind things about you?
How do you feel hearing nice things about yourself?
Use this as an opportunity to discuss the need for us to use kind words at all time.
How do we think others might feel when we say unkind things to them?

This week’s art challenge is to make a dinosaur skeleton using pasta. First, watch this video as a guide- How to make a dinosaur with pasta
You can make different parts like the spine or tail bones only or you can take on the big challenge of making the entire dinosaur skeleton! Have fun and share your lovely pictures with us on Tapestry.

Reading
Read a book or two on Active Learn this week. We have assigned a range of books for you all to enjoy! Practise the words on your laminated card- this will help to improve fluency.
