Today we have been busy looking at using counters to help us begin to understand subtraction. We were developing our Maths vocabulary by using sentences like ‘First I have eight counters, then two were taken away. How many counters are left?’ We had to count the whole, then turn over however many counters we needed to subtract in order to help us find the answer.
We were able to link this to our learning last week and think of fact families for the subtraction sentences. We are becoming really confident in making links between part whole models and number sentences.
