20th May 2024

On Friday, Denim and Sapphire were lucky enough to go to the Black Country Living Museum in line with their topic of the Victorians. We went into the different shops such as the hardware store, played with the Victorian toys, bought some sweets, went into the pharmacy, rode on an old Victorian bus with our bus tickets, and had a lesson in the school – we were very well behaved apart from Miss Phillis who had nail varnish on and had to be “shamed” and Mr Sproson got the cane because he had doodled on his arms!

Did you know that the terms being ‘fired’ and ‘sacked’ came from the Black Country? If you were working in the mine industry and you were sacked – they would throw all your belongings in a sack and you couldn’t work there anymore. However, if you were fired, they would throw all your belongings on the fire and you couldn’t work in that industry anymore!

Have a look at our fabulous day!
